383 guestions, (hotcam,heads,) l98 block
well, after fighting with my engine all day i finally got it out, i was going to build a 355 but after today , i might as well spend a few hundred more and go with a 383 , my guestion is i allready have the lt4 hot cam, is this to small of a cam to use, even if i got 1.6 rockers, allso, how good can l98 heads be if the were reworked, i dont have money to buy new heads, and the mini ram is more important on the to buy list, due to suffication of the 383 and stock top end, but after getting this engine rebuild and a 383 kit , and slp headders ,new 2800 stall converter and hotcam, im broke ,so i have to live with what the 383 will give me in hp, untill i can get a mini ram, and bigger injecters,throttle body, ect ,ect, , any comments or suggestions ??????

I don't really have anything to base this on, but I think the LT4 Hot Cam should be a decent cam for a 383. I'm sure a slightly bigger cam would yield more power,but since you already have the Hot Cam you might as well just give her a try. It's not like the Hot Cam is a 'small' cam - it is pretty decent size..........

It's more than the cam.
It's the heads and the exhaust and the intake ...A 383 conversion will tend to smooth out the cam (more 'pull' at the port for a given volume/cross section).
Stick with that cam; see where else you can make the gains.
