Car won't start "sometimes"

Howdy, Iv'e got an 89 GTA L98 and the thing will not start. I took the intake off and did a little porting, but nothing major. I did get it to start today and it blew quite the amount of water out of the exhaust. Also it would not idle, I had to hold my foot on the gas. When it doesn't start the exhaust smells like gas terribly. I've looked every thing over and it looks to be assembled correctly. The scantool gave me a code 55 (defective ecm)once today, and then it would not connect to the computer at all. I am completely lost. Help me!!!

It could be a lot of things...

sounds like it might(!?) be the ECM has loose connections (but unlikely) -check the emmissions control components, that they're all connected properly. Is your oxygen sensor ok/ connected correctly? -is one of your spark plug cables loose? -I'm trying to think...

I would first check absolutely everything is connected properly and use the diagnostics again -you need to disconnnect the battery to reset the diagnostics -if there is a glitch with the ECM, this might (although unlikely) fix that... good luck

just thought of something else -sounds like you've not used it for a while -might be a build-up of damp in the spark plugs -clean the connectors out and use some WD40 to clean/remove damp on the connections.
