Got worked by a Mustang, Help!

I raced a mustang yesterday from about 80 to 100 and he took me pretty bad about 2 to 3 carlengths. It was like a 91-93(not sure) LX 5.0, I don't know what mods it had. I was wondering what I could do to help out my car, what should I do next? My mods are in my signature.

------------------
'91 Z28 305, Auto trans, K&N filters, TPIS air foil, power pulleys, ported plenum, hypertech chip, hooker cat back, kyb shocks, STB, SLP 1 5/8" headers, catco 3" cat, 14.7@ 93 mph.

Sounds like your car does exactly what mine does: fall on its face on top end. Your 320+ ft lbs of torque gets you out of the hole like a bastard, but the inherent limitation of TPI (and the small bore 305) makes them poor cars for high speed racing. I've lost track of the number of cars that I've taken 0-90, only to be walked from there on up.

There are some pretty bad 91-93 5.0 LXs running around. Friend of mine named Bob Cosby has one that runs low 11's high 10s and he drives it to work every day.
So unless you know the modification level of the car you raced, don't feel so bad.
And yes, stock TPI cars start to run out of steam at that speed, our torque is down lower.

Dump the 305 and drop in a carbed 383, if the Stangs still cause you trouble, invest in the lil blue bottle.

ET? About on par with a worn out 305...

Unless you want to do the major work these guys have mentioned, then yeah, go to the Blue Bottle Insurance Company. Start to lose at top end, press a button, win. Pretty simple. Or, be a safer street racer, and shut down around 70-80, so you seem like the good guy racer, AND you're still in your power range.

you can also get rid of that pathetic cam that you have in there. Go to a junk yard and find a L98 cam and throw it in there or better yet buy a good cam out of a magazine.

It's already there. You need to get informed.

I say don't go and change your engine, if it runs good why do that?? Make yours better, build it up. Get some really good flowing heads, much better cam,(like Comp Cams) a custom PROM or Fastchip, ram air, or even a S/C.
