I can't put on any more gas burning mods!

Geeze ......gas wnet up to 92cents per litre for supreme yesterday. I was all primed to rig up my car with a cam and heads this summer. The price of gas is supposed to hit 1 buck per litre this summer so I am screwed! I think I am going to have to get by with porting the plenum and putting on a set of headers and front pipe. Is there anything else I could do to up the performance but keep some mileage?

Headers will help with gas mileage, as well a good ignition system. Also, get into prom burning and utilize "highway mode"

Made all the difference for me

Learn how to burn your own PROMs and then enable the Highway Mode Fuel and Highway Mode Spark. These routines are in the standard GM Calibration but GM has them turned OFF. If you turn them on you can get awesome gas mileage. I have talked to people getting between 20-30mpg with around 25mpg being the average AFTER enabling these routines.

Gunning for NA 11's with bigger cam, bigger stall, and bigger exhaust.

Let's do the math, .92 x 3.8 = $3.49
Yikes, that is ridiculous. But of course that is Canadian dollars. I don't blame you for putting things off.
My mileage was about 17MPG before starting to modify my engine, and now I am 20+MPG on city/hwy mix.
Mods are great and they do increase performance as well as engine efficiency, but the other little things like correct tire pressure, scheduled oil changes, clean spark plugs, ignition timing, and many others can attribute greatly to better mileage.
But the biggest factor in low gas mileage is lead foot, that can eat anybody's fuel budget. On the other hand a 38MPG 1988 Ford Festiva (my wife's other car)for these high gas price times isn't a bad idea.
Good luck

I put in $100 a week and as it is. Our money is worth nothing so it is really expensive. It is going to be about $300 for my B&M shifter from summit. OUCH! It takes more cash but I love my baby! I think I am going to invest in an old honda civic or something...I need good gas mileage and reliablity! I have to get rid a my S10 I guess hahah
