tpi conversion worth it?
tpi conversion worth it?
I am thinking about converting my tbi into a tpi system i can get my friends tpi off his car because he is going to put something else on it. I was wondering if it is worth it for only 200 dollars and if i could take out all of the wires off of his car for the tpi without screwing any thing else up i know i can buy a wiring harnes but i am very low in money and what other things will i need?
Thanks alot

If you are taking out his entire system, that is, if he is going to a totally different setup, then you shouldn't have to buy anything unless something is bad. Get all the sensors, (MAF, IAT, knock) the ECM, and the entire harness if you can get it. Also make sure you get the fuel pump and fuel tank with the lines if you can.
If you want to buy a harness, I can tell you that there have been a lot of complaints on here about Painless Wiring's harness, that it's too short and connectors in the wrong spots, so I would buy the GM one. Hope this helps.

TBI fuel lines can't hold the pressure that is required by TPI, and I believe that the mounting on the tank for the fuel pump (since the fuel pump is different also) is different than it is for the TBI

All you need is a new intank fuel pump. The tanks are the same and the lines are the same (except possibly at the front of the engine where the fuel rail lines connect). TBI fuel pump only flows 9-15psi stock, where TPI flows up to 50+psi.

Yep, TBI has an intake pump, so you just need to swap pumps out, and change the fuel sock on the end of the pump while you're in there. Also change the in-line fuel filter. Mine was a perfect swap in my truck.
As far as fuel lines, they should be metal for the most part, your ok. For those places where its a rubber hose on the supply side, be sure its high psi hose for at least 75-100 psi to be safe.
