Is there a way to bypass the MAF Sensor

Is it all necessary to have a MAF sensor. My car passed Cali emmisions easily without it. I just prefer to run a K/N at the Throttle body if I can.

Edit: Also if maf not functioning correctly or not present, the ecm uses RPM and TPS instead.
