Will this work?
Will this work?
With gas prices every raising I have been almost afriad to do any kind of performance upgrades. Anyway, I recently found a fairly cheap engine from GM Goodwrench with around 285 hp and 353ftlbs. Honestly This in its self would be quite an upgrade from the 305 TPI in the 85, however, I have some questions about what may work together.
1. I have seen some of the posts sayin that really the only thing that is recommended after doing this swap was and adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Is there anything else that are musts?

I would change you intake runners to better match your cam and head flow profile. The SLP is a good choice because it bumps the productive flow up about 500 rpms.
There are other things that might need to be considered like changing the Torque converter and rear gear to all match the new RPM range.
If you just want to make it run all you stoc stuff will work, but you will need more fuel to feed the larger displacement.
The other things I mentioned will net you better gas milage and better performance when all mated together.
Though I have to say that when you have the TPI apart the is no excuse to not port the hell out of the plenum and base.

Past Thirdgen:
86 Trans Am w/ built 355TPI with SLP goodies and too much other stuff to List. One sweet *** car, wish I would have had a good enough Job to pay insurance on three cars so I could keep it, but for a 89 Turbo Trans Am w/ Low miles, I think I made the right choice!
