HELP! i am new on this board. just rescently got a new engine into my 87 iroc. about 3000 mile now what kind of gas mileage should i be expecting? with the old motor i now it was getin at least 15 now 11 gallons is lastin me about 120 miles. which is crappy. anythoughts on why so bad. i have never messed with tpi i like carbs. thans ken

 

When you say "new engine" what excactly do you mean?
•A new engine?
•A newly rebuilt engine?
•An engine new to the car but not new or recently rebuilt?

If the milage was ok with the previous engine, and whoever did the swap didn't do something wrong then I would suspect the engine itself. Perhaps the compresion ratio is different. Perhaps the camshaft is different. If the engine isn't new then it may be worn and no longer efficient. If it was rebuilt it may be a little "tight".
Might be time for a new oxygen sensor too.
