Timing Question

I am haveing to set my timming on my TPI swapwd into a Nova. I know that it has to be set with the ESC unhooked and set at 6deg. My question is what if i set it at say 10deg will the computer know the difference? or will it act the same way it would at 6deg.

Re: Timing Question

the computer adjust timing some what by itself. you still want the base timing set correctly. try 8 degrees and see how it idles and revs up. then try 6 degrees and see if it run better, while the est is disconected.

Changing the base timing without updating the ECM will affect everything equally across the board which may not be what you wanted.

Re: Timing Question

what i am basically asking is does the computer know that it should be set at 6deg. and if it does if i put at say 10deg will computer try to pull it back to 6 or leave it at 10 as the baseline.

Yes it knows it's suppose to be at 6°, but can't change it on it's own, but it can change it's operating parameters and save them as a relearn I.e. where it use to retard 10° for knock, now it will pull even more.

Re: Timing Question

I have an 87 transam 305tpi that I set to 8deg, ran a little better ,then set to 12deg and this was to much, reset to 10 deg and it runs great . There is an article on the main page about running at 10 adv and unplugging the egr with good results.
