A new cam.

I was interested in getting a new cam for my 86 IROC with a 305 TPI, cause it has the peanut cam in it and from what I hear that is a really crappy cam. So who is good to get a new cam from? I hear Comp Cams or Crane cams are good? If I get a new cam, what exactly do I need to look for? Is there anything I have to add if I get a new cam? If there is a site that explains this, could I get an address? Or maybe a book? Thanks.

Enter "penut cam" or "cam swap" into the search and you'll find a the exact some topic I posted a week or 2 ago.

I have a cam that would be perfect for your car.I HAVE A NEW NEVER USED 57-87 CAMARO OR FIREBIRD CRANE TPI HYDROLIC ROLLER CAM. THIS CAM IS PERFECT FOR GOING INTO YOUR OLDER SBC. IT IS MADE TO WORK WITH AN IRON GEAR ON YOUR DISTRIBUTOR SO,YOU DON'T HAVE TO CHANGE TO A BRONZE GEAR. IT IS BIG ENOUGH TO WERE YOU CAN FEEL THE EXTRA HP BUT SMALL ENOUGH WERE YOU DON'T HAVE TO CHANGE THE COMPUTOR OR LOSE DRIVEABILTY. I paid $300.00 for it from summit but,I will take $200.00. PART# IS 119811.if you want a pic of the cam card E-Mail me and I will send it to you.

Carefull, 86 had hydrolic flat tappets, not roller. 87 started rollers.

Well, I'm not really ready for a cam just yet. I mainly want to learn about them before I get one. Thanks anyway though.
