Stroker kit for 305 TPI?

Do they make stroker kits for 305 tpi engines? It should be possible right?

They do make the. It comes out to be a 334 or 335. one of them, i cant remember. the reason that you dont here about it too often is that for that money you can probably build a 350. Im not telling you that you shouldnt do it. I think it would be pretty cool to have a powerful 305.

really not worth the effort unless having a 334cu in. engine is what you want it would be good in a 1500 lb. car but not a 3rd gen plus you have to watch the lift on the cam so you dont hit the cylinder wall plus 202 heads are not an option for the same price you could do the same to a 350 and make it a 377=4.00 bore and a 3.75 stroke easiest way to tell cu in.'s on a stock bore motor is to add or subtract the difference in stroke i.e. there is a difference of 27 between the 350 crank and 400 adding 27 to the 350 gives you a 377 like wise if you put a 3.00 stroke in a 350 block you take away 48 the diff. between 3.48 and 3.00 =a 302 quite helpful if thinking up combos

377= 400 block & 350 crank
383= 350 block bored .030 over and 400 crank

how do you get 377 out of a 350 block???


Dont mess with stroking a 305. for much less effort you can build a nice 350 or 383 and have a lot more power. i really dont understand everyone around here wanting to build 305's. If you want build a small displacement chevy, do a 302 or something.

I have a 400 block, and a 350 crank. The only reason i didn't build it to a 377 is because you supposedly need some kind of journal spacer. That just strikes me as something else to fail when im beating the crap out of the car.

I am rusty on the stroker thing but I believe that the 400 block (4.125in) with a 350 crank (3.48in) is a 372. While a standard bore 350 (4.00in) with a 400 crank (3.75in) is a 377.

To answer the original question they build a stroker kit for the 305 here www.flatlanderracing.com

I thought if you had a 350, and put in a stroker kit, it would only go to a 383. Am I wrong? As for money, I don't have the funds to get a 350 and have it installed. I do have the funds for a stroker kit though.

The reason why it's called a 383 is because 95% of the time when you come to the stage of stroking your 350 you have to overbore it to 4.030 to get rid of the ring groove which makes it a 383.

NavyVette is correct about the stroker sizes.

As far as the 335 stroker goes, the same concept applies, 400 crank, but in a 305. You'd need and externally balanced crank, damper, anf flexplate. The only real reason to do this is in a light car where low speeds and engine size (cubes) are a concern, or for bragging rights. I personally think Vortech305 should consider this if he wants to keep his 305, but he does have an all-forged assembly already($$$). A 383 can be built for just a tad more. I believe powerhouse carries these strokers in a kit for $600, and $850 balanced with a damper and flexplate. I'd have to look it up. I considered this to my '86 IROC but decided to get rid of the 305 along time ago. I drove one, torquey SOB in the city but no HP on the freeway due to bore size. Good 'emissions' stroker.

I gotta admit, it would be cool saying you have a 5.4L TPI, and could beat some LT1's and maybe an LS1 (again, $$$)with a 305.

example 350 CID
3.14x4.00=12.56 x 3.48 x 8 = 349.67
350 block and crank
383 CID
3.14x4.06=12.7484 x 3.75 x 8 = 382.452
383 is a .030 350 block w/400 crank
377 CID
3.14x4.316=13.55 x 3.48 x 8 = 377
the 377 is a .030 400 block w/350 crank
