GTECH HORSEPOWER

I'm just curious how this thing works and how accurate it is. I run the below car 1/4 in the mid 13's and usually at 105+, do 0-60 in 5.5 or less and I just did a horsepower reading with the GTECH for the first time. I input my weight at about 3450 with me in it and it said 203 hp. How can a car running those times only be putting 203hp. If I am correct I am supposed to hit it through a couple of gears up to redline and be accelerating hard. Is this right or am I doing something wrong. I just don't see how a car with that little power can run those times, thanks.

You're probably heavier than you think. You should be on level ground and have the Gtech level too and in the middle. Gtech is also going to account for rolling resistance and air drag. It's only an accelerometer. It calculates hp based on an accurate weight and accurate acceleration readings.

I've used my G-tech on several cars and the results seem to coordinate very well with factory ratings. My friend's '96 Camaro V6 had a 172hp on the G-tech. Remember that these are rear-wheel horsepower numbers. With a 15-20% driveline loss, that equates to around 200 flywheel hp. My friend's '89 5.0 had around 210 hp and it runs 14 flats. My car with a stock intake had 300 hp, which equates to 345 flywheel horsepower. Make sure you weigh the car and run on level ground. Try to use first and second gear, that way air resistance does not slow you down.
