L98 Vette heads questions...
Ok, you can see in my sig most of my mods. I do have new exhaust. I was able to score these rebuilt, and complete for very cheap. They are the 113 castings also. My questions are as follows:
1.What modifications if any are needed to get these on?
2.What thickness should I get for the gaskets if I dont want toooo much of an increase in compression?
3.Im going to port my plenum and everything while Ive got them off. How much of an increase should I see when all is said and done?
I think thats about it.

You will also either have to change your EGR system to a vette version, or disable it in your computer. Other than that, someone else should chime in.

The heads will bolt up fine, but you will probably have 2 problems:
One of the bolt holes for the accessory brackets is probably missing. No biggie, carefully drill+tap.
The center 4 bolts in the heads are at the old angle, so your intake base will need to be modified to work. Its another minor change, you have to elongate the holes a little... and machining a flat area would be a nice touch.
Misread the engine size... refer to post below about compression.

I just put these heads on about three months ago and this is what I did. The corvette heads have the same size combustion chamber as your 305 heads (58 CC) so you will not increase your compression. The head gasket I used had a compressed thickness of .028" and it's GM # 10105117. This gasket should keep your compression close to stock. GM used a steel shim gasket stock on our engines. As for the EGR I just left is hooked up like the passages were still there so the ECM thinks it still works. I have not thrown a code yet. As for porting I cleaned up the bowl area and gasket matched the heads to the intake. When I put my heads on I also put on headers. If you do not have headers yet, I would make that your next mod after putting the heads on because with the heads and porting you should have no problem getting air into the engine just getting it out will become your restriction.
