which emissions stuff to take off

I have a 91z28 that will be seeing some meduim modifications to it. I have a pair of SLP 1 3/4 headers and dual 3" random cats. My question is which emissions stuff can I rip off without making the computer go into limp mode. I wil be keeping dual cats on the car to pass emissions but the smog pump has to go in the trash. if i toss the smog pump and all the hoses then do I need to keep my EGR vakve. What gains are made by blocking off the EGR valve? My headers have no AIR tubes either.

I removed my smog pump on my 89 IROC and got the correct belt and had no problems. as far as the egr i think you will have to reprogramm your chip to eliminate egr.

My car is running very well with the EGR vac line to the solenoid disconnected. It needs less gas for passing/accelerating and doen't hesitate or bog anymore....but it's illegal.

So I can just block off the egr hole on the intake. I have to get a custom chip bunrt for my car anyway after I get my engine all put together so I will just let the company know. I just hate all that emissions and usless **** under the hood. I trashed my fuel canister on my last 91z28 and just left the line from the tank open. is this bad or harning anything

Does North Carolina have vehicle inspections or emission testing? I used to live in Charleston, SC (no inspections or testing) and had an '84 Trans Am. I installed a "plain-jane" Chevy 350 with an Edelbrock carb and pulled out about 2 miles of wires, removed all sensors and then pulled the computer out and threw it into my shed (literally). Then if that wasn't enough, I cut off the muffler, took out the catalytic converter, and clamped a "glass-pack" muffler in its place. All you need is 12 volts, gas, and air. That was one of the best vehicles I ever owned (and the most politically incorrect). The check engine light was on, but could have removed the bulb if my arm was 2 inches in diameter.

OOPS- I see you DO have an emissions test... nevermind all of my rambling. good entertainment, though.

Move to South Carolina.

No. That vent line can be open to the atmosphere with no problems at all - as long as you put a hose on it and route it someplace where water cannot find it. Wouldn't want water finding its way into the tank .

I would experiment with the EGR to see if ya get any gains. Seeing what EGR stands for, I would think that it would increase your mpg slightly and make the air we breath just a bit better .... every little bit counts.

The EGR recirrculated gasses might raise the temp of the intake air, thus making small performance gains. Just unhook it at the track.
