picked up a TPI setup for $150 yesterday

it's an 86 MAF setup, everything but a computer and distributor, which isnt a big deal since i work at a parts store. i have a dist. core laying around that i can probably swap out as a defect and get a reman for free the joys of free employee parts. and the computer, well i'll buy it at cost and i'll send them my LG4 computer as a core maybe they wont figure it out. the wiring harness is in great condition, not burnt up or anything but i have a long way to go before i install this baby, first i want to get new sensors all around then get some prom burning equip and teach myself to do that, then i'll throw it in....probably wont be till spring since i have to save up for my cancun vacation this summer. anyway, enough useless rambling. anyone who has swapped a TPI into a carb car, if you have any info on it or any links or even a checklist of things you did, I'd really appreciate hearing from you. Thanks!!

YUP, just got done doing it, Put a TPI into a 87 Formula that had the LG4. Have you ever rebuilt an engine, It takes about 4 times as long to do a conversion... lots of fun and you will learn your car inside->out.

A little different conversion considering I did a Formula not a Camaro, some little differences would be, your battery, airbox stuff, & cruise control location. But other than that. Read my Notes, You should find them a little helpful.

Almost forgot go to: http://www.3rdgenformula.com After the "Splash page" On the Main Menu page on the left about 1/2 way down there is a section for Modifying your Formula, click on it. Then there is another link to TPI conversion, you can read my experiences in converting.

Have fun, its alotta work... Took me about 2 months

When you do it, feel free to e-mail me, I will help if you want it.

ahhhhh crap i wanted to make this a weekend project lol i cant have it take 2 mos, this is my daily driver! well the reason for this post is that i want to be well prepared and try to cover all my steps before i begin anything, then round up a few people to help (or at least one to drop the tank and put in a fuel pump hehe) while i get it all done. i'll probably just run the harness through a few days before and have it ready to go in. well thank you for the info!

Yepper you got a good deal for sure. I dumped over 5bills on a tpi (86).

I got the computer and harness in amazing shape The copper is still bright, the distrib gear is in real good shape with fresh inj. My 88 the copper is green, even deep into the wires when I got it (Lots of elec probs....)

The only thing I didn't get is the MAF which I have and a knock sensor (3.9k is it?)

I'm goin from 2.8 to 355tpi but I have a model tpi to look at while I do the swap which I'm sure will help. Neighbors think I'm freaked running between two cars and lookin' under the hood and running back...

I think I could do it w/o any snags as I went through the swap 8000x in my head... Of course there's snags, but I even know them (all the trans x-member bolts are going to snap, guaranteed as I snapped one... (drill&tap) and the nuts on the fuel filter are round and the damn thing never was changed (still don't know what to do... why can't they just flare it like brake line?)

Yikes!

I am doing the same to my 86 LG4 Trans Am.
Been about a month now. Actual work time on the car was 3 days so far. Just been waiting on some parts, like an external fuel pump, throttle cable, alt. bracket, oil pressure fitting, just small stuff.
I have a checklist of what I bought so far on my site.
