lt1 clone intake

ok I'm looking at geting this intake off E-bay, it's for L98, looks like an Lt1, but has a dist hole out back and the guy said to me it's out of GM's r&d
Part# is IL48049
Could anyone check this # for me....have you guys ever seen that before? (go check e-bay)
IT could be a nice alternative to the Miniram, maybe not "As good" but a better alternative than ltr set up...
anyway, I think I'm gonna get it....but gimme your opinion first.

thanks guys

yeah i've seen these before!the LT-1 intake is one of the main reasons why an LT-1 makes more power than a L98.if you can afford it get it.i would
hey you said it was on e-bay?hhmmm???

Could you give an auction number? Can't find it on ebay. I think it would be great if it's not bad expensive. The miniram with fuel rails costs almost a grand.

I know LT1 heads are different because of the reverse-flow cooling, but aren't the intake/head suface different too? I thought that was why you never see someone running them on a genI SBC.

I saw an auction for LT4 intakes for $200, ported and polished for alittle more $$$, FYI. I had a '96 'Vette crate motor I was going to make a 396 out of (rod knock), but sold it instead.

If it's this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cg...item=591670767

...it looks like a TPIS Mini-Ram 1. Note the lack of a throttle cable bracket mount, front coolant exit, or CTS hole. Lots of gripes about these led TPIS to re-cast and create the Mini-Ram 2.

The 1 and 2 flow the same internally and if you can work around the details above it's a great intake.

Be advised you'll need TPIS fuel rails and their modified thermostat neck to bolt it up...looking at around $300-400 above whatever you pay for the intake itself.

WTF, look at the bottom pic, is that an EGR port? If so, that's no MiniRam. Many things on it look...incorrect. Where is the tube for coolant flow, and if not tube how about just the port! Approach this items with caution, looks to be a little shady.

Thats an early LT1 prototype intake. There is a engine & tranny at a local junkyard in Denver that has an LT1 and ZF6 6 speed transmission and it has a similar intake on it. The car was a 1990 Z28, they were using it for high altitude testing.

The whole point want merely to test the flow characteristics of the manifold, but still use a conventional distributor since the whole Optispark deal wasn't quite ready for prime time.

There are NO coolant passages in that intake, as well as the obvious lack of a thermostat housing, etc..

ok so is that mean that without the coolant passages, the engine is going to over-heat??

It means there is no place to hook up your upper radiator hose as it sits. I guess you could say it would overheat since the cooling system would be effectively bypassed if you didnt use some other method of getting the coolant out of the heads.

You could fabricate a coolant crossover tube, like the circle track guys go. But in the end, you'd have so much in fabrication, that you could have just bought a miniram allready.

GhoSSt- is that engine/trans combo still in the car???? If it was, holy crap that would have to be worth some cash.

Maybe you meant 1990 IROCZ (there were no 90 Z28's, they came back in 91.)

No, it sitting on the shelf rotting away because the stupid junkyard owner is too dumb to decide what he wants to do with it. Oh well. The car is long gone, GM brought it in to crush, the yard did a light roof crush on it (just enough to damage the top). Then once GM left, they snatched the engine and tranny out.

I wasn't there when the car came thru the yard, so all I can go by is what my former associate said. Perhaps the mule had some decals or something on it unusual. Dunno. Unlike many of the other prototype I've seen or seen pictures of, this on had both a optispark up front (functional) and that prototype intake as well. No injector covers, or engine dress, but it did have the Corvette magnesium valve covers.

GhoSSt:

Do you have the name of the yard that has the intake.

I can use one more of them.

Thanks for any info you can supply.
