Survey: What do YOU consider street legal?

As the topic says, what do you consider street legal? why?

I was reading through the archives and saw alot of different suggestion for engines...transmissions etc etc...all with one person saying "It's not really street legal" and the other saying "I run it on the street and it's great!" So spit it out, i want to hear it...

As far as i'm concerned, everything is street legal as long as these requirments are met.

1. Your kidneys can take a bumpy road for atleast .5seconds
2. You can still barely hear the stereo when its turned all the way up.
3. About 1% of people don't look at you when you drive by because of the curiousity of noise.

And i'm sure i'm forgetting some things

If the cops dont pull you over because of some sort of safety or noise thing (like NO exhaust, or NO brake lights, or something dumb like that) and you can actually drive it from point A to point B without it breaking or overheating, its street legal. I see too many trailer queens that wouldnt handle a 20 mile freeway run... that isnt street legal IMO, thats a race car.

By my definition street legal means it passes all required inspections & emmisions testing, and has no parts that are specificaly outlawed in the locality where the owner lives and where the car is registered. That's easy enough.
Now the real question is what do you consider streatable? as a daily driven, long distance commuter?, or just as a weekend plaything?!? Then anything that doesn't overheat, or break from extended use!?

I agree w/IROCKZ4me, as long as it passes emissions and local laws, it's street legal. Most likely if it does, then it's streetable too...don't think there's many 6 second emission friendly motors out there.

Definitly different views than what i read... more clear now. Well since i don't have emissions and the cops here actually stop and talk about their "Hot Rod" they had when they were young..i could probably get away with alot. Then again it's a small town. Anyone else wanna join in with their opinion?

right---

if you KNOW the cops in your area WONT give you a ticket for anything on or about your car as far as im concerned its legal. they are the judges for all practical purposes UNLESS

you have to pass any tests or get regular inspections. (ahh I love florida)

Well here in cali we have to jump through hoops to make our cars street legal. We have to follow some (if not the most) of the strictest smog laws in the country. That and there is also a set of laws governing mods to your car. Most cops don't care on a regular basis but I've heard of "sting" operations where cops show up at street races in highly moded interceptors and then they nail you for everything for modified exhaust to having your car lowered to low. Again this is really rare but it is on law books and does affect "street legality" I guess.

I was watching Speedvision and they had a Street legal Twin Turbo 7 second Dodge Viper.

As long as you are not so loud that you wake up people 2 bloks away, and can manage not to break loose every time you try and take off easy and meet emmissions standards, its legal.

Street legal to me means being able to drive down the street without getting pulled over and without having to wait on something to cool down every 20 minutes.

Street legal is loosly used in some racing circles. Like NMCA and NSCA is advertised as "street legal" drag racing. They require working lights, horns, partial interiors. That sort of thing. Of course they are full on race cars and 10 minutes on the street theyd be overheating.. lol

Well Im from Minnesota and good ol Jessie Ventura got rid of the tailpipe sniffer test when he took office. The man is OK in my book. Otherwise I was going to go for the Superram instead of my current Mini-Ram set-up. I think my car will still pass a smog test though. Thats street legal, IMO

Theres a real odd 'fine line' here in Cali. Yea, you have to pass the sniffer (not hard IMO) but there arent any vehicle inspections around here like in other states... The cops rarely stop people for things like no brake lights, bald tires, etc. unless they just want to harass someone and use it as an excuse. Its VERY lenient here aside from Mr. Sniffer up the tailpipe.

Okay, so "street legal" is basically what you can get away with and what the driver him/herself can tolerate while driving the vehicle. Am i correct?
