Engine/Tranny Cutting Out at 3200RPM

I'm really hoping someone can help me out on this one...I went to go do a dyno run today only to discover that the engine won't rev past aprox. 3200 RPM while in gear. It wasn't doing this 3 days ago so something has happened since then. It will rev all the way to the red line at 5500 RPM if the car is in neutral or park. But if it's in gear, as soon as the tach hits about 3200RPM it seems to be cutting in and out (kinda feels like it's hitting a rev limiter or something like that). I'm not sure if it's the engine or transmission that holding off. The car seems to idle fine, and when I rev it up high in neutral it revs up nice and smooth, not jumpy or anything.

Any comments or help would be greatly appreciated.

a possibility is that your cat. converter may be partially clogged and it can only flow so much. could be as simple as the air filters are dirty too, but i wouldnt put my money on it being that. you might want to make sure your fuel pressure is higher when the vacuum line is disconnected on the regulator.

It wouldn't be the cat (just over a year old) or the K&N's (just cleaned in the spring)...but fuel pressure may be a problem. I'm not sure how to check it, but that does sound like it may be a possibility. Thanks so far.
