FUEL PUMP BLUES

ok, I need a new fuel pump, I want to put on an electric external, I don't have a whole lot of horses so I don't need something HUGE so I looked at Holley's Standard Pressure pump, BUT it says not recomended for fuel injection..... so my problem is that I need an electric external pump for a fuel injected car with not a whole lot of mods, but a few... nothing major

call summit racing or jegs. they're pretty good at finding what you need. electric fuel pumps for fuel inj. produce a much higher pressure than standard electric ones.

I got a Holley external 45psi fuel pump from Summit. Total was $142 and change shipped to my home.
We installed it today. Took us about 4 hours to do the complete install.

You will need to get a new intank pickup from a carbed car if you want to go external.

I have an intank pump and sender for sale. It is mounted to the bracket that goes into the tank and has the wires already on it.
You'd just yank yours out and put this one in.

I'll let you have it for $50.00

Do your self a favor and get an in tank pump, external pumps a very loud and will annoy the crap out of you. It is not hard to put an in tank pump in and doesn’t take very long.

94-ZZ4-Z28,
Installing an in-tank FP does not take very long?? Do you have a secret for getting out the FP without dropping the Axel & Exhaust that I don't know about? I am interested, cause I have thought about changing my FP.

See the thing is I JUST replaced my intank pump like 2 months ago, and it took us forever, granted it was our first time doing it, but still. plus it costs alot more than an external.... if you figure 70$ for the pump, 90$ to get the exhaust welded back up.... which is hard to find a place that will do exhaust work when you have not cats.. and then whatever the fine was for having no exhaust... the 140 some bucks for an external is looking pretty cheap.

You don't have to cut off the exhaust, you just have to jack the car up as high as possible, take your wheels off, disconnect any brackets that are holding the brake lines to the car so that they don't break which will give you a few extra inches to lower the rear end, take off the panhard bar and the other brace, disconnect the shocks.
When you have the axle as low as possible then push down on the muffler to get it as low as possible, be carefull not to break any welds on the exhaust.

We did this last thursday on my brothers 96 Camaro. Took maybe 4 hours to do everything.
His intank fuel pump doesn't come seperately, you have to buy it complete with sender, list price is $349, I got it for him for $254.

I ordered a Walbro High-Pressure 255 ltr/hr pump kit from Ron at Auto Performance Engineering. Cost me $108 complete. Beats the hell out of paying double

I did not say it was a quick job just not hard, even on your first time you can get it done in an afternoon. And you do not have to cut your exhaust you can unbolt you exhaust at the cats and push it back out of the hangers and turn it down and to the side and slide the tank down and to the left.

LeeH what times do you run just interested because we have a very similar set up.

Would you believe that I have never taken it to the track? Well, actually, it's been to the track a bunch of times, but that's cause I hang out with a bunch of comp eliminator guys, so every time I am at the track there is a point's meet or something going on.

I am going to the North East Thirdgen gathering in Virginia Beach on July 27, so I will actually get it dynoed and race it there. Which ought to be interesting, cause I have never driven on a track before. Any tips?
