Another Vortec Heads/TPI base post...

The usual story here. Here's the reader's digest version:
Would like around 300hp
Tight budget.
Daily driver--it just needs to beat the GT in the next lane.

I'm thinking about going the Vortec route because I just can't argue with prices like THESE, but my REAL question is about the Scoggin-Dickey base versus the Edelbrock. What's the difference?

According to previous posts on TGO, the bases are essentially the same thing and Edelbrock was casting them for Scoggin-Dickey. However, the SD bases appear to be for a corvette--so creative plumbing would be necessary to keep it smog legal (I'm a California boy).
BUT
On JEGS, (as well as edelbrock.com) the Edelbrock base is 50 state legal for corvette or F Body. There is no mention of fancy plumbing needed to retain the factory EGR. Did Edelbrock change their design at some point? Obviously, I'd like to avoid additional costs and work if at all possible, so the Edelbrock base seems like the way to go.

Whatchu think?
