Since I live in a GM town, I might have an answer for you, Imagine a bin of parts, filled with a thousand of those runners. I would bet that most of our dents and bruises came from the factory.
You say "NO-WAY", My father was an engeneer for GM, he can recall watching people do bodywork on cars as they were going down the line.
It would not surprise me that the Chevy engine folks here in Flint when they were assembling those engines were less than perfectly careful with each one.
Until more recently engines were to do more with function than beauty when coming off the line.
Just a thought. Never seen aftermarket dented runners...

The runners have two hidden bolts. Most first timers wind up beating on them to shake them loose thinking they're "gasket stuck" before they discover they have more bolts to take out.
Additionally they are super thin.

...or getting angry at the passenger side valve cover because it won't go on right and accidentally getting thrown into the engine bay, denting the runner....

Some people are too lazy to take the TPI off a motor when they pull it, and the chains dent 'em. At least thats why mine are messed up on my spare TPI kit.

nawwww, I didn't think those old UNION boys ever took A break, I thought they were on perpetual break....
Unions are funny, they will fight tooth & nail for that smuck that gets caught screwing around a million times, but won't lift a finger for the hard worker.
Just a thought, Do you really think they assembled those engines IN the car???

This is OFF topic.
Didn't mean to step on your toes, sorry. The UAW has done some good for the Autoworker, but as with everything there seems to be an abuse with the system. I live in a Union Town, I have alot of UNION friends.
When uppermanagement has thier hands tied because the Union will not allow them to fire "bad apples" then the Union has overstepped their bounds.
To tell you thr truth, it has become a joke with even the Union guys here, I have listened to them brag about how bad of a job they do and how much they screw off. I watch my neighbor across the street from where I work, come home in the day, park his city boom truck and take a nap, I have seen the truck there ALL day, 6 to 7 hours. That to me is stealing.
If they are a Good worker and work for what they get, thats one thing. But to take advantage of what they have and not think twice because the Union will save their butt is where I think there should be lines drawn.
Too many people are willing to sit around and collect what they think is due to them. I am wondering when America will wake up and relize that we DESERVE NOTHING, we get only because we have worked hard for it.
I see people complain because thier children don't wear designer clothing. I have one thing to say, get a clue, not everyone can afford designer clothes. I don't wear designer clothes because I feel it is a waste, I would rather spend my money on a nice set of TPI runners. <had to work it in there. If we all have the same amount of money to spend, and we are all equal, with no classes, rch, middle class & poor. Newsflash: that is a fundimental of Communism/Socialism
I believe that life is NOT fair, we are NOT created equal, NOT everyone will have the nicest TPI runners. That is they way life works. The Bible states that it rains on the Just and the unjust alike. When bad things happen, there is no more of a reason to why than "its life".
Unions or NOT, we need to do the best job we can reguardless to whether we like our job. If you don't like your occupation, quit. Of course there is the unknown to contend with, but thats life. Find what you enjoy, and if you REALLY enjoy it, money will no longer be important. A little religion does not hurt either.
Of course you cannot group all unions, or union workers into a bunch and say that they are all the same. That is as bad as racism, you cant claasify people in that manner. There are Good union workers and there are bad union workers. The Bad worker, who screws off, and does not work for his money is the ones I was referring to. Unfortunately, when most people think Union, that is the worker they think about. We as Humans seem to like to look at the small group of bad and think that everyone is like that.
Again I appologise if i offended you, it is my opinion, and I am smart enough to know that there are great peoplr working in Unions. It is just those limited few that screw up everything for everyone. The one bad apple theory...

IROC5.7TPI, why are you boycotting Lapeer dragway, I know it sux but is there another reason???
Just to get a bit back on topic, I work for a company that makes stamped and welded assemblies for GM. I don't know if castings are treated any better, but considering the way our parts are dumped from bin to bin its a wonder that any of them make it to the body plants unbent and undamaged! They've been doing it this way for years though, so I guess it doesn't matter. Our other big customer is Lear, and we handle their stuff with kid-gloves, so who knows.
I guess all I'm trying to say is that, although people percieve the union assembly line workers as being responsible for the finished product you recieve (good, bad, or otherwise!), in many cases they aren't. It is usually the fault of the dumbass white-collar worker that designed the process that the line worker must follow, in my experience! (being a dumbass white-collar worker myself, I feel qualified to say this

oh, and what IS wrong with Lapeer? I went there a few times last fall, and it seemed like an OK strip. Seemed kinda pricey to get in though..
So now that Detroit is a condo complex or something, if you boycott Lapeer, what is left? I personally don't like Milan, and Norwalk, although cool, is a little far to drive to.

I got a bad taste for union shops. Not all union workers. Reason I say is because I work in a non union shop. We manufactur large heat treating equipment. Some of the union shops we build equipment for contract us to install it as well. When we go in, we are hourly and work sometimes 14-16 hours a day to get the job done. get in, work, and get out.
Well, on one job, some dumb bitch woman was like, "I hate Billy Bob! (anoony name for the owner of my company) All his workers are dumb mother ****ers! They work 14 hours a day! I can sit around and do nothing and get paid for it!"
Well, how stupid is that? Our workers also get hassled by the union workers in the shops we install in. Is that fair? I say that they shut the **** up and stay out of the way because no one is taking their damn job.
Unions are good to a point but a lot of union workers are big cry babies and need to get the big picture...
Sorry. Just a sore point.
Runners get dented when non union workers think about union workers under the hood of their thirdgen when replacing plenum gaskets.
