IAC and fan question? What do they have in common?

Okay am I ever puzzled. My fan quit working, it is not the relay and I haven't checked the sensor yet but I did take 2 wires and hooked them to the battery from the fan and it is working direct for the time being.

This is the puzzler, when I tried turning the fan on by grounding out the A and B terminals for the diagnostics my IAC is making a very noticeable clicking noise, I put another one in and it does the same thing? What would cause this to happen? Is it connected to the fact that my fan is not coming on?

Help please.

I'm pretty sure that the IAC opens all the way in diagnostic mode. There's another very recent post that explains this... either in this board or General Engine.
