How hard is the SuperRam to install?

How hard is the SuperRam to install, I've heard its a real bitch. And, if it is really hard, why is it such a pain?

Dan, I just got done installing the super ram on my 89 Iroc (lt4 hotcam, ported vette heads, headers, etc), and yes it's a real bitch. You'll swear after installing it that your car was made in Japan, not to mention the superram, itself, which seems to have been designed by somebody not of this earth. Why the hell do you have to install the bolts through the bottom of the damn plenum anyway?!? Now to the problems, one, you have to remove the fuel rails and injectors, which sucks, because of the risks involved with fuel. You'll probably have to replace some of the o-rings as well. There's also no way to avoid this step, which I tried to do, because the s-ram runners are much larger than stock and won't fit under the rails. You'll also have to remove both valve covers and two rocker arms from each head. This is so you can tighten the runner to manifold bolts with a good allen wrench. Everything is such a tight fit with super ram, it took me almost 3 hours to get the passenger side valve cover on, because I couldn't clear the new runners, plus all the wiring harnesses. Then there's the plenum to runner bolts. I used a hacksaw and cut a groove into 8 of the bolts, so I could pull them up from the top with a flathead. Just make sure and follow all of the directions if you go with this intake. I hope my 12+ hours of putting the bitchram on will be worth it in performance. Am I not going to recommend this intake, no. But everyone is right when they say the install of a super ram is a major pain. I think It'd be good for your engine combo, but that's for you to decide. I'll let you know how mine runs with all the bugs worked out, which should be the next few weeks. If you have more q's let me know.

Yeah, I don't know if I plan to get this intake setup or not yet. I already have ordered the Accel SuperRam base, but that doesn't mean I have to use the SR plenum and runners, I may just get the SLP runners instead and keep the stock, ported plenum. I just know the HOT Cam likes the shorter runners so I thought maybe I'd go with the SR, thanks though!

too much work go MiniRam and build the motor. atleast a 355 but most likely a 383 or a 400-406. best judgement.

i am planning on a 396 stroker and a MR, but that will be next years project, and i am looking at 11s, with suspension tuning.

and the MR is much easier to install, ask TRAXION he has had all three setups, LTR, SR, and MR, his favorite is MR.

Yeah, I know the MR is the best. I plan to use that on my SCCA 377cid IROC. But for my car now, I didnt want to use that, it flows WAY too much for a street 350.

The main reason people down play the Miniram is because of the "rumor" that you loose bottom end torque. This is not the case if you match the system properly.

I know a guy with a Miniram on a 350 MAF car with 3.08s and I can tell you that his car feels like it has more torque than my basically stock L98 with TPI and 3.23s. So don't let the "rumor" scare you from a Miniram.

The biggest reason I think that may affect a decison to use the Miniram (or not) is whether you are subject to Emission Inspections AND they specifically search for a functioning EGR. Then you are hooped and can not use the Miniram.

Don't get me wrong, I like the "torque" characteristics of a Superram. But my goal is to "simplify" access to my engine; not make it more difficult. So I will just match the right cam to the Miniram to get the torque charatericts I want.
