help asap car turns but wont start
i just got my intake and everything back on. no i turn the key and the car turns over but won't start. if you pump the gas it kinda pops a little but it seems like the timing is off or the plugs out of order. i checked the timing with the electronic spark advance off and the timing is at top dead center but it still will not start.
any help is greatly appreciated.
i did have the distributor out if that makes a difference but i did install it where it was. plus the timing is on so why would it not start.
i have checked all the connections and they are all secure.
man i hate it when this stuff happens.

Take out the number 1 plug
(front right)
put your finger over the hole, and turn the crank till the timing mark is lined up with TDC and you feel the compression PUSHING on your finger, then you KNOW its TDC. Sounds like your distributor isn't in right at all...
Also make sure all you have all electronics plugged into the distributor

ok everyting is plugged in. i did the turn it and it was at tdc as far as i know. so what else could it be? it has to be something with the spark.

Im having the exact same problem.. does anyone have any idea on how to cure this? I've tried adjusting the lash from everywhere from 0-1.5 turns.. no go. the distributor is in correctly.. same with the plug ordering.. I've checked over and over again the connectors... also, when I turn it over, now it pops from both the INTAKE AND the EXHAUST... no idea.. help!!!!!!!!

i sent ya an email but i don't think what i said is gonna help you if everything is correct.
if its popping both ways then it must be off 180 degrees cuz being off half a turn it would be igniting when the intake and exhaust valves would be opening and closing

got it all fixed.. the dist was in 180deg off... so i just rotated the cap 180, and reversed the plug order. i hate taking that damn bolt out that holds it in. my luck I'd drop it in there and have to pull the engine..thanks for the help everyone.. thirdgen.org comes through once again
smokin87 needs to make sure he didnt do the same thing, if you line up the timing mark on the balancer, you are either on with the timing....or 180 off.

yes i had done the same thing but i got it fixed that day. its frustrating when your timing lines up when you crank it over but it doesn't start
