Holy Sh***, FIRE!!!!!!

I finally got my motor back together this weekend. For the first time in over a year, I cranked it over and BAM, the thing roared! I was f'n pumped!!
So today I went out to tighten up any vaccum leaks, set the AFPR, and set the timing. As I brought the motor up to around 2500rpms, the number 6 injector started spraying raw gas all over the place! I pulled the coil wire off with my bare hands to kill the motor, but the gas had already caught. It took me only about 10 seconds to grab my CO2 extinguisher and put the fire out! I looked for damage, which thankfully was pretty minimal. Most of the flame was just the raw gas burning off, but some of the hard plactis vaccum lines seemed to be a little warped. The injectors lines were cool, as well as the MAP sensor, ect. I guess I got away pretty clean for the amount of flames. Anyways, I started to look for the cause of the gas leak and found that one of the injector clips got bent while I was reinstalling the fuel rail. That bend was just enought to unseat the o-ring and cause the leak. Now, after spending the last 3 months trial fitting all the aftermarket injection pieces, everything has to come back off to fit the clip, what a BITCH!
Anyways, I just thought about the $20 that little Pepboys extinguisher cost and how much money it just saved me. I found out the hard way how tricky Fuel injection can be! So if anybody says, "don't worry about the clips, you will be fine", stop and take the time to check those things, cause I just found out how ugly a broken $2 piece can make your how day!!

p.s. Sorry to vent, but I thought an FYI might help somebody out before it happens to them!

i know how you feel about things going wrong on the first crank. the first time i fired the 377 in my bird i somehow forgot to hook the brake booster line into the back of my carb.... 11:30 at night i fired her off was sounding great. then from the drivers seat i saw a nice glow from the engine compartment. ever seen slp 1 3/4s get red hot? boy was i glad i used forged pistons!

Yeah, I found out about those vacumm leaks early on too! Before all the fire ****, I had a loose runner bolt. When the car first fired, it shot up to like 4000rpm right away! Scared the **** out of me, but not as bad as the damn fire.

SUCK'S don't it. YES you did get by lucky. My car didn't fare so well. POOR THING from the looks of it it must have been burning for 1/2 an hour or so. I think it too was a fuel leak because everything on the pass. side top of the motor was gone. It took all plastic and rubber pieces it could find. It even took the hood. But I bought it that way in hopes to get it running soon. I am 3/4 way done with it and it should be only a few weeks left till.....
I turn the key and it fires up. By the way I will be armed with a fire extinguisher. It is a 1987 Trans Am GTA 350 TPI digital dash, Black with the Gold wheels. F'n sweet looking. CAN"T WAIT. Once running I will rip my IROC apart to install the new 350.

I just swapped my old 24lb injectors for some 30lb SVO injectors and hell, it only took about 15hours...!!
I did the same thing on the injector clips, I thought, oh hell, I don't need them. I have a superram unfortunatly and it takes about 2 days just to work on it. I got it apart in 1.5hours, then I went to reassemble it and got the fuel injectors in w/o the clips, then got the runners back on. Glad I pressure checked the system before I Put the plenum back on, the number 6 injector started spraying everywhere!..
On this note,
ALWAYS pressure test the fuel rail after assembly!
