I have knock, what now? (deep discusion within)

I have a '87 tpi camaro with a brand new jasper installed 1500 miles ago. It now has a lack of power, fuel economy, and smooth idle. The lack of power is at any throttle position and it isn't always consistant. Cold temps seem to help things a little as far as power goes, but the idle is still bad. My my auto-xray reads my coolent temp. sensor at 190 ish when my gauge is at 220, which is my operating temp(my thermostat is a 195). Also my scan tool says my knock sensor is going off at anything more than moderate throttle, some times showing more than 10 degrees of retard. Could this be related? Can I test my coolent temp sensor somehow? My scan tool also reads 8161 for my prom ID. Is this stock for a '87 350 TPI camaro? Any help or other ideas are greatly appreciated.
thanks

Have you tried un-installing the jasper unit to see if throttle response has returned?

As for the temp gauge, mine also reads about 220, and my Diacom tells me it's at 195.

I think his throttle response would probably get worse if he removed the engine from the car

My apologies...I assumed he had meant that TPS enhancer some people buy. Isnt the maker named Jasper Electronics?

I was talking about a rebuilt long block, according to them it is an exact stock replacement. My timing is set at the factory spec of 6* BTDC, and I haven't tried changing it yet. I run 87 octane, like I did with my old engine, mabye a tank of 93 is a good place to start. I realy am not sure exactly what was done to the car before I got it as far as mods go. It had a 160* thermostat in it which is a comon mod, but also one required with a hypertech thermomaster chip. How do I know if I have a one of these or a stock unit? As stated above my scan tool reads 8161 as my prom ID, does this number refer to the chip or the ecm itself. thanks for all the help
