Carb to TPI on an 86 LG4 motor?

I am about to buy a TPI setup and get rid of my Carb setup. Just wondering if the TPI manifold will bolt to my stock heads on my LG4 motor.
Also, will I have to do any modifications to my fuel lines? I am also getting a fuel tank with pump and sender, those should bolt up fine, right?

Thanks,
email me if possible.

Depends on the year of the TPI manifolds. I put 85 manifolds on my '87 LG4 and I had to elongate the center four bolt holes to make it work.

You will need different fuel lines. I gutted all of the stock fuel lines out, and ran factory fuel lines. I bought them used from a wrecked car for $20. You don't need the whole gas tank, just the sender, and for pete's sake, put a new pump in.

I did the exact same swap (on an '87, see sig), so feel free to ask.

Can I break into my stock LG4 lines and use them? I was going to mount an in-line pump and filter under the car and just break into and move the lines. Any reason why this would not work?

Many thanks.

I'm pretty sure that the fuel lines in a TPI car are larger. Someone else on this board should be able to confirm that. I have also read that an inline pump is not recomended as the primary pump for a F.I. application. It should only be used to supplement an in-tank pump if you need more pressure or fuel flow.

Like what was mentioned above, you will want to purchase an 85-86 base-plate manifold, to be a direct bolt-in. 87 up will work, just have to modify the center bolt holes to line up. Sorry, don't know about the fuel lines, but you do want to go with a NEW pump in the tank.

zepher,
you probably have three fuel lines coming to
your fuel pump. the return line shold really
be 3/8" if you are going to do some racing,
or high rpms. 5/16" is ok, but could make some
probs later (running rich). this is how tpi
gets a bum rap because of the conversion
isnt complete. if you are running the stock
tpi harness, then consider either a chip or
VATS bypass. the burner can remove the VATS
command.
the 85/86 manifolds will bolt directly. 87/92
will have to be modified. are you still going
to run the MAF or change to a speed density system?

I wouldn't recomend using the carb lines, since 25% of them is low pressure rubber. They also enter the engine bay on the wrong side. I only paid $20 for the entire length of fuel lines from the sender to the engine bay, including the two flex lines (which I didn't use anyway, since I used a Vette fuel rail).

You can use an inline pump, I know several people who did, but if you are going to drop the tank, I would go ahead and put a Walboro or something in. you can re-use the carb fuel tank (they are all the same) but you will need the F/I fuel sender if you are going to use the F/I fuel lines. V6 and V8 lines will both work.

Well, right now I am going to be using the MAF setup and try and get the car running.
I installed a Holley inline high pressure fuel pump and changed all the low pressure fuel lines with high pressure lines.
I just need to get a couple more connectors, like the MAT sensor wire.
I have been procrastinating for a couple of months now, need to get working on it.

I have a "how I did it" on my web site conversion from LG4 to TPI, check it out, might answer lots of questions for you. If there is some question that I could help you with, e-mail me. I havent been around for a while due to work.

Go to http://www.3rdgenformula.com after the spash screen scroll down about half way on the main menu page and find "Modifying your Formula" You will find my journal in there on how I did the surgery.

Sounds like a plan bro, will do. How is the conversion coming along? I was at the local pick and pull the other day and they had an 84' TA that had an LG4 that was converted to TPI. It looked pretty well done, they even swapped in the serpentine system and late model harness. (88+, different relays) It still had the cold start injector on it and was hooked up though, and was a MAF system. I grabbed the whole TPI system with ECM, but not the harness. I just did not have that kind of time, well that and they charge by the foot! They already kinda charged me about 3x more than what I was figuring on. Let me know if you are missing anything or need a clue, I can check that one out as it should be there for a while before they crush it...
