2000 z 24 putting a beat on the 1986 ta tpi

got smoked by my friend last night he has a z24 5 speed and i believe 3;90 gears we went from 80 kilometres and i heard him rev the engine before i new it he was gone and i couldn't catch him. then after he tried the g-tech and he ran a 15.13 at 97 mph my best time with the ta was 15.5 at95mph. that is pretty quick for a 4 banger with 150 horses

It has to be modified. I have a 92 Z34 and a Z24 will eat me out of the hole until about 40mph. Then it's lightweight doesn't help it as much as it did off of the line and a Z34 will run it back down. This is assuming both cars are stock. A Lumina Z34 runs anywhere from a low 15 to a mid 15 stock. I think a stock Z24 is a high 15-low 16 second car.

Unless we start discussing mods to beat that Z24, this topic will likely be moved to the Theoretical and Street Racing Forum.

Anyhow.... thats sad. I would do what ever it takes to get that car running right. I think you should tune it up (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, PCV, etc.).

I hope you find out later that the Z24 has NOS

I own a Pontiac Sunfire, same as the Cavalier. I'll tell you, they little 2.4L engine is no joke! I even have the automatic, and it can keep up with my Trans Am with NO TROUBLE. The engine is a dirivitive(sp) of the Quad 4 engine.

No, what's sad is I have beaten my friends old '89 IROC with my Cavalier...and it's a 2.2! He had an old 305 TBI though...still sucks!

You'd be suprised how quickly they get up to 50 mph, provided you wind the engine up, but they start to crawl at around 50-60. I was thinking of modding my 2.2 just for fun, adding a custom intake tube, ported high-compression factory head, using up my old Accel plugs and wires, stuff like that, as kind of an 'anti-rice burner' sleeper. No rice mods like Folger fart cans or big stickers.

Maybe I need to goto bed...I need to save my strength for my Camaro

Either way, it goes to show how far technology has gone with better airflow on smaller engines! VTEC still sucks, cubes rule!
