Daily driver? Check out TCI, they are total experts! get one with like a 2000 - 2500 stall. their website has all the info, i think its www.tciauto.com

Re: new torque converter. need advise..

forget tci, get a good converter from a reputable vendor...precision industries, edge racing(I recommend them), continental etc. These vendors build torque converters to your specifications based on engine mods and such, not a one for all deal like tci,b&m etc. If your car doesn't have the basic bolt ons(exhaust, hedders, intake...), i'd start there first....not trying to tell you what to do with your car, just ideas to throw around.

A good enexpensive convertor is the 96 era S10 4.3 convertor. It has more stall and works great behind a mild or stock engine.
They are easy to come by and cheap.

Re: new torque converter. need advise..

if he's not planning on "major" engine mods/swap then a converter like that will be fine.

Re: new torque converter. need advise..

I'd go with edge racing, for the price vs quality you cannot beat it. I'm currently running one of their lock up 9.5" street/strip units on a nitroused 355ci and that things bullet proof...the tranny might even go before it at this point. Find their website, call them and ask for Andre....he was the one that spent close to an hour with me on the phone going over my engine specs, my goals and the do's and don'ts of a good torque converter. They also offer one free re-stall of the converter after your purchase just in case you make more mods in the future and want a higher stall.

the 9.5" edge converter like mine is $545 and a stock, HEAVY 12" 2000 stall converter is gonna do you absolutely no good behind a "decent" 350 or so but build heat and make that car feel like a big fat pig from a light.

Re: new torque converter. need advise..

btw My BFP has enough to spin tires first and sec. note the 3.07 gear and a 51/49 f/r weight distribution.

IMO any power past wheel spin is not used. Thats why a 10 sec motor in a 13 sec car runs at 14 sec, they can't "hook" and have higher mph vs et.

This is for the op and anybody just following allong.

IMO the best (lots of money) way to get

"i wanted street drivable but a killer on the track"

is buy a nice pu and trailer to take your 9 sec machine to the track.
