Crank Pulley Spacer?

This issue deals with a naturally aspirated 89 Firebird TPI serp setup, long water pump.

I have gotten a set of polished pulleys from ZOOPS. It appears after test fitting that the crank pulley (LWP pulley) is a bit short, looks like an inch or so. My TGO search revealed lots of stuff about supercharger pulley spacers but nothing relating to NA. Does anybody know where I can find CP spacers? Google was little help either.

Would it even be a bad idea to shim the pulley with washers maybe?

Thanks,
Eric

I am guessing they sent you the wrong pulley. I know the van L31 pulley is same diameter, bolt pattern, but is considerably shorter.

Re: Crank Pulley Spacer?

This really sucks. I called ZOOPS and had them measure from the inside of the dish of the pulley to the top lip. It measured 2.5", just like the one I have does. I got a vague estime of my current stock pulley which was between 2.75 and 3.25 inches from the same points. This fellas swears this if for the long water pump and hasn't had any problems before (right). Has anyone else run across this? Now I need to find JUST a polished crank pulley..any suggestions on where to turn?

I'd rather not have to buy a set of underdrive pulleys for just the one I need...

Are the other pulleys off too? It may be that they are all different. I dunno, dont know exactly what you've got in hand there.

Re: Crank Pulley Spacer?

You can get a crank only pully from ASP. It wont be polished though.

Can you get us a picture of both from the side, with a tapemeasure between them?

Re: Crank Pulley Spacer?

I haven't removed the stock pulleys from the car yet. Scary to think that I can see the difference without even removing them...it was that obvious.

Upon further inspection (I bought the crank, wp, ps pulleys from ZOOPS) I found the PS pulley wasn't going to fit either. I'm gonna have to call Summit and return the entire set now as I bet the WP probably wont work either. This blew me away, what LWP setup WILL this fit?? Corvette? Either way I'm glad I looked at all this stuff before I took the serp setup apart.

This will lead into my next post, and hopefully not another war of words on the subject. I'm going to have to get a set of March underdrives. I really did not want to go this route, but I am determined to have a full polished set of pulleys on my car.

Thanks to all who replied.
