Expert advice needed,finally buying heads

I am finally going to go internal on my engine and only want to do it once the right way.I have all the necessary bolt ons allready complete.I want AFR heads but think 190's will be a little small and heard 195's don't work with a Miniram,I am going to use Comp290HR-12(230-244/510-540)or something similar, what do you think will work well with my combo??also will I need self aligning rockers wuth AFR heads??

1) If you haven't bought your miniram yet, then call TPIS up and tell them what you want to do with your engine. I understand you can get the miniram sized to work with AFR195 ports

2) Size your cam to your head flow and expected use of the vehicle. Cam selection is an art... ask the cam manufacturer what they'd suggest for your combo, intended use, and how rough of an idle you can stand.

3) AFR states in their literature that hardened pushrods and thier guideplates are required for use with their heads. I take this to mean they don't recommend the use of self-aligning rockers. Wanna know for sure? Call them up! The BEST place for the information you seek is the manufacturers themselves.

The 190's are not too small. What's 5 cc's? You can get them ported and opened up to about 205 cc if you need to. The Trick flow 23* heads are good too.

That CC306 should work fine. You only need self aligning rockers if you don't have guideplates, in other words, on stock heads. The afr's or trick flows will come with guideplates, and you will have to buy some hardened pushrods to make them work.

Make sure you get the right thermostat neck from TPIS, they act like a couple of boneheads sometimes.

About a year ago chevy high performance did a test of all the heads and AFR won i have a set of the 190 heads and they are great you will like them and they have thicker deck than others so when you step up to nitrous or superchargeing the heads will take it
