Re: Making power with Comp 280XFI

I'm a bit confused on what I wanna get. A good friend of mine (TunedPerformance) gave me 2 cams to choose from, xe276 or 280xfi. My setup is as follows: ported HSR plenum and base, AFR 1040 heads, Summit Racing 1.6 aluminum roller rockers, EDL TES headers and y pipe. I will be getting a custom tune from TunedPerformance based on data logging. Any advice guys? If needed, I will start a new thread.

280XFI is the best choice a you should get Dyno Dons headers.

I second that, its pretty much the same setup I have and it works well. Enjoy!

Also the edelbrock headers are junk, I would go with the dyno don, or a long tube setup (if you want to deal with the hassle)

problem is that I dont wanna spend too much money if I go longtubes (meaning that I would need 2 mufflers).

Go long tubes, with a y-pipe and then single 4". I only have one muffler.
Don't go with dual exhaust

Do you have any pictures of that longtube & ypipe setup?

Re: Making power with Comp 280XFI

Those heads have the longer valves for that spring spec installed height? (2.00"). Those are some stiff springs for hyd roller. Any less than 2.00" install height and pressure is hust about too much for gm type lifters. Would need morels

Re: Making power with Comp 280XFI

I talked to afr and the tech guy said the pressures will be fine with the cam and ls7 lifters but yea Im not sure about it still. Is there a way to shim the springs to lower the pressure? I priced it out and to change to the 8019 I THINK is the number it would cost like 400+$ so I'm not sure what to do. Also not sure what push rods ill need yet.

Re: Making power with Comp 280XFI

It will work if head really is 2" install height, just on the border line of needing better lifters. Most dont seem to like goin 450+ open pressure on ls7's. Its slightly overkill anyway. I run 180/450 lbs seat/open on a much bigger cam under loads of boost plus heavier valve than whats in the 195's and i'm sure it could spin 7500 rpm. Its been 7200 no problem so far

Re: Making power with Comp 280XFI

Alot better than i expected that cam to do in a 388" type motor. Heads and intake are working well. Then again the manual trans shows better dyno numbers but still good
