Is TPI possible and/or a good idea on a ZZ4?
Id definately try and find a speed density set up....... that would be a 90 - 92 set up...... my next project will be a 90 GTA jet black 5.7 auto and hopefully ttops if they made them in 90.
Sounds like a good project but make it a manual trans. 6 speed perhaps. Automatics are for old people.
I know there are a lot of people out there running TPI's on ZZ4's. I think it is a great idea and I have heard of people getting nice results. Go for it..

The ZZ4 works well with the TPI. It does not produce 355hp and 405tq with the TP because it is completely different than the 650 cfm carb they used to dyno is. However, if you need a replaement 350 for your F-body, and want to add a little more kick, the ZZ4/TPI is a great setup.

I have a buddy with a 305 SD TPI unit on his ZZ4 and he's running 13.7s with a little weight reduction.

TPI on a ZZ4 makes a great street driver,as stated earlier, without lots off aftermarket intake parts you will lose a little HP.Im using TPI off of an 85 305 ,19# svo injectors and a 305 chip.SLP runners and ported stock intake and plenum,so really nothing done to it.In crappy Okla weather it will run 13.70-13.80 @101-102.7 all day long, and this is on street tires ans 2,16-2.19 60 fts.Car just blisters the tires out of the hole, most of the way to the 60 ft lights. This is on 295/50/15 remingtons,at a 30 MPH roll-on on most asphalt streets it will break em loose pretty bad.I beleive im a little over geared also ,3:73 and 26 in tall tires,go through the lights at just over 5100,a bit high for a basically stock tuned port.Anyway ,as i said, and anyone who has done the swap,it makes a relly nice street driver.

I was actually thinking about going the carb route myself, after having the tpi setup on my zz4 for a few years now. But now, I am reconsidering. So far, my best time is a 13.30 and that is with 2.73 gears, shift kit, 1850 stall, billet servo, k&n, afpr, tb coolant bypass, gutted airboxes, headers, airfoil, chip, 24# fuel injectors, hi flow cat and flowmaster. I have not done any porting whatsoever to the tpi unit and still have the 48mm tb. Later on today, I'm gonna put in some 3.73's and try to do the ram air setup. Later on in the week or so, I think I'm gonna get the 52mm tb and fully port the stock tpi unit to see what I can get outta her. I'll keep ya posted, but in short...yes, it's a good setup!

I'm the guy Poorboy was talking about. Check my mods. You loose HP. It'll drop to about 315 if everything else is stock. I plan on a Mini Ram w/ 1.6RR and a LT4 Hot Cam in the near future. I LOVE it

A couple of things I haven't seen mentioned:
1) The ZZ4 heads have the '86-earlier intake bolt pattern. Not a big deal, but something to be aware of.
2) The ZZ4 heads do not have the exhaust crossover passage. If you need functional EGR (such as for emissions), you need to plumb exhaust gas up to the intake a la Vette TPI.
A Vette TPI base takes care of both #1 & #2 (with the tube from the exhaust manifold/header, of course).
