Need HELP - EMERGENCY!!! fuel leak!?!?
Ok I am counting on you third-genners to help me out here, cause im in a bind:
I recently noticed that my car (when I start it) idles and runs like crap. When I pull out of my garage the car almost dies. As I start driving down the street, I press on the accelerator and the car starts to die again. If I floor it, the problem gets better. Then after I am running for a minute or so, everything seems to be OK.
I was thinking I had a fuel injector leak, so I attached a fuel pressure gauge, and when the pump is primed, I notice an immediate loss of pressure, but very slight. It goes from 42 PSI to 40 PSI.
Right now, in my garage, i have the plenum off. I pulled the fuel rails off the intake manifold and primed the pump. I didn't see any leaking injectors!!! ARGH!
Could it be the cold-start valve? Fuel Pressure regulator??? I dont know how to test either of these!
Please tell me what to do! I need to drive this car on Monday for work!

Hey, Joe,
The pressure leak could be from the cold start injector, the fuel pump itself, or the pressure regualtor.
You can remove the cold start valve and test it the same as the rest of your injectors. Reconnect the steel tube to the left rear fuel rail when you get the CS injector removed and prime the system again.
As for testing the pump and regulator, it is fairly easy. If you suspect the regulator, pinch the fuel return line closed and prime the system. If the pressure maintains with the line firmly pinched but drops as soon as you release the return line, the regulator is probably leaking internally.
If the pressure does not maintain with the return line pinched, it's likely that the fuel pump has failing check valves and should be a candidate for replacement.
Of course, you've already eliminated any external leakage.
