TPI in jeep Wrangler. continuing thread!

I am in the process of putting a TPI in my Jeep Wrangler.
It's a 93 YJ wrangler, with a Speed density setup. I will have a few questions as well as showing you all some pics of the whole engine install. This is my first time with this type of motor, and am glad that I decided to do this to my jeep. I got the 700R4 as my transmission too that I bought from someone here a while back.
I don't expect you guys to know anything about my jeep, but obvious it's still a tuned port in there, so the tech would be the same.
I hope that you will give suggestions and tech to a newb of TPI's.
Thanks
Mike-

Here is some quick pics of the way it sits now.

That's pretty cool, and it even has A/C! I wish my engine was that easy to get at, heck, you can actually reach your spark plugs. I'd think TPI would be a good choice for offroading/rock climbing, with plenty of low end torque.

If your going to do any serious offroading i would worry about that 700R4. It is not the strongest tranny GM ever made. Its plenty strong for street driving but once you get some serious inclines going you might have problems with heat and slipping clutches.

Still working the bugs out, but I'm almost done. I didn't know a thing about these engines, and I've used this website to completely rebuild it, tweak it, and debug it. Theres a great group of people here.

As for the 7004r, Don't be scared of that thing. If it was built properly, they're pretty bulletproof. A month ago I went on a 4x4 trip with a fresh 2' of snow. I was literally beating the hell out of my transmission and redlining to keep wheel speed for two days straight. No issues at all. My trans was running extremely hot after the build, I ended up removing the trans out of the radiator, and mounting two seperate radiator coolers with their own cooling fans. Tran's worst enemy is fluid breakdown from heat. Keep that 700 cool, and you will love life!

I've learned a ton of things dealing with TPI's in jeeps over the last couple years. If you need anything feel free to pm me here, or on gl4x4.com

Thanks!

AC is a must! I like to be comfortable. I do like how easy it is to get everything. That's all I heard is that A tuned port is the way to go.

I do agree with you. I thought about a th400, but mating it to my transfer case would cost more. The transmission has been rebuilt with kevlar clutches, corvette servo, and all the goodies. So hopefully it will hold up. I am gonna put a cooler with a fan behind the seat to keep it plenty cool.

Ok, I will be talking to you soon. As for the tranny, I know heat will be your worst enemy. That's why I am gonna cool the crap out of it. It's either Pirate or here I get my info, so It should come out great.

Little bit on the motor:
The motor came out of a 91 1500, the intake has been pieced together from alot of sources; mainly 91 camaro stuff.
Ebay
craigslist
thirdgen
pirate4x4
texas4x4
I got the TPIS lower intake. Ported the runners to fit that.
24 lb injectors; ported and siamiesed the plenum. huge throttle body. Modified ecm. And a NOS kit for fun times.

Re: TPI in jeep Wrangler. continuing thread!

Ok I got a few quick questions,
On the fuel rail I could not reuse the little clips for the injectors; is it a big deal to not use them, I read on here a while back that there is enough pressure from the rail to seat the injectors, but I'm still not convinced.
Where the heck are is the heater core fitting on the motor. I see the one by the fuel rail fittings, but where is the second? On the TB, which is a third question, why coolant in the TB

Re: TPI in jeep Wrangler. continuing thread!

The other heater hose fitting you're looking for would normally be in the radiator, just below the cap. Since I'm guessing your radiator doesn't have that fitting, you can use the port on the top of the water pump. There's probably a plug there now, but you can replace it with a hose barb. Use that, and the port on the front of the intake for your heater. Many people here bypass the throttle body coolant passage, it's designed to heat up the incoming air.

A 700r4 can be built to be bullet proof. Have it rebuilt with good parts and dont worry about a thing. I would'nt swap an OD tranny for a non OD for anything.
