Problem when going full throttle

Hey I'm not entirely sure what is wrong here but since I've owned my '87 Z28 with TPI, whenever I gave it full pedal to the floor gas my car just pretty much craps on itself and doesn't give any power just revs up passed redline and I repeat, delivers absolutely nothing to the wheels it feels. However if I play with the throttle and let off a bit it will switch and put me back in my seat, but I am definitely lacking a bunch of horsepower due to this. I had a friend who is a former mechanic and camaro owner check this out and he said he is unsure but we will start by changing my timing. Any ideas here?

Re: Problem when going full throttle

check your tps sensor to make sure its properly calibrated. checking your timing is a very good idea.. the previous owner may have altered it for some reason, and you are just the recipient of their bad decisions.

Sounds like it might be a fuel problem. Get a fuel gauge and check the fuel pressure....should be about 38-42psi for TPI and around 13 PSi for TBI. Also change the fuel filter if its been longer than 30k miles since last replacement.

One thing that happens, when you lift the gas at wot, is the tranny (700R4) shifts into OD. Vettes and police will shift at wot (unless the tranny has been swapped when rebuilt).

A Corvette TV sleeve and plunger will give WOT 3-4 shifts.

The 3-4 WOT Shift valve from GM is #8673948.
It's made by GM for the Caprice police cars but will do the job.

If the motor just revs when you stomp the gas you need a trans. The TV cable adjustment will not likely cause only a full throttle shift problem, but would also have lazy or harsh shifts also. I just recheck the post to see if it was fixed yet and couldn't believe I missed the revs with not power statement.
