Transmission: MD8 (700 R4) + 3.42 LS1 Rear
89' IROC Wont Start
Well if it's not one thing it's another. first the brake problem now this. well anyways i started it yesterday and it did start. it died out on me and didn't want to start again. well i pulled the codes and got a 21 TPS. well i have since replaced it and adjusted it to .54VDC and the damn thing wont start. it cranks and then the engine stops turning over and then it gets going again and backfires through the exhaust. i disconnected the bypass connector, in depairation, and the car sounds like it wants to start but it wont. i'm guessing an ignition problem or computer problem. guys please help me out here before i was kidding about the bonfire thing but now i am more serious than ever. well thanks for your help anyone.

most likely a spark or fuel prob.
here are the things that made my car do what you discribe. (it wouldnt start alot)
coil, fuel pump relay, injectors, ignition modual. i hope for your sake its not the injectors.

Are you getting any new codes???? have you reset your ECM since replacing the TPS????

well guys thanks for the replies. i have found the problem. on my way to testing the ignition module the problem was the distributor rotor had broken. kinda crazy but i am relieved that it wasn't something big.
