newbie euestion-which chip

My MAP tpi 350 is running 24lb Ford injectors and it is running well using a chip burned for those injectors... although mileage has been disappointing. I have another chip burned by another source for 22 lb stock injectors. All things being equal, would this second chip cause a rich condition if installed?

I don't do any datalogging at this point, but I may get into that. Sorry if its a goofy question. Just trying to learn...

More than likely, yes 24lbs injectors will run too rich if the computer thinks they're 22lbs.

Re: newbie euestion-which chip

It is funny that with 24# injectors, 50# of fuel pressure, and a stock 22# chip (buc). My blm's run 160 to 128, worse at lower cells better at higher. Maybe it is the maf reading low. milage at 15 city 20 HW

Also some stock bins are set to 23# like the stock $32 bua maf chip.

Re: newbie euestion-which chip

I've installed the second chip as an experiment and it starts and runs okay, but seems just a little boggier at low rpms. Will pull a plug or two for inspection soon. I'm going to run it for a few days and will probably switch back before too long. Hoping to do some tuning this summer in hopes of improving the mileage, which so far is never more than 15 even on the freeway.

Re: newbie euestion-which chip

To do much tuning, datalogging is a must. The cells at cruise and at the bog need scanned. The blm's will tell weather it is rich or lean. The data will show you the way, it is like listening to the car, to find out what it likes and dislikes. Plug reading, sounds, smells, and the butt meter are other ways to find out what is going on with your engine.

The chip has to match the vehicle/engine, and best I can tell, there were no TPI trucks. You would be real lucky to find a chip that is even close.

Re: newbie euestion-which chip

Both of the chips were burned by folks who were told a lot about my engine, except that one (Street and Performance) knew about the 24lb injectors. Both chips run the engine pretty well, with the one programmed for 22 lbs a little boggier in second gear and smelling a little rich on cold startup. Engine starts and idles very well and has decent/good power with both chips.

I do definately see datalogging in my future though... I'm too curious what is going on in there and would love to get better mileage. Is Auto XRay or Moates cable and software the way to go?

Auto xray is good for setting the tps or pulling codes. The data log cable and PC are better for tuning, you can compare more things (all 25) and relate to time. I use datamaster, then change the uni file to a spread sheet, then change, sort, graph, and make it more readable.

I use a cheap win 98 lap top, then down load to the house PC, to ponder.
