Cam Questions/Selection

Okay, my motor has 186,000 miles. It's in fairly good condition. Everything is in tune. I've been wanting a new cam and have decided i'd get 3.42 gearing for my 9 bolt rearend, and then do the LT1 intake conversion. I just don't understand this cam stuff. Providing i put the aluminum corvette heads on my car that are ported. (hey, their gonna be free) So help me out. Which cam should i get?

Note: I have a dacco converter which stalls at 1800 rpms.

What size valves are you going to have in the L98 heads?

Whatever they come with (which i have no idea on). I believe their the stock valve size but if i can scrounge the money to get bigger valves i will.

well my aluminum corvette heads got sold. So how about ported L98 iron heads? What cam would work with those?

For the TPI setup with ported L98 heads I would try the ZZ4 cam from GM. But if you really want to go to an LT1 intake on an engine that old, try the LT4 HOT cam from GM. Just my $0.02.

I just look at it as.."Why not..." If i make my 383 which is on paper or decide a 6" rod 357 i can always use the LT1 manifold again.
