Mini Ram? Prom

What changes should I make to the prom to help it run. I have not got it yet, but I'm trying to fix problems before they start. Thanks in advance.

Your fuel requirements are going to change dramatically above 5000 rpm. I have also found that the MiniRam responds to ignition timing. I have a 383 with 11.5-1 compression and found that the car runs best with 38 degs total timing. This was not a seat of the pants, it was done at the dragstrip.

It really depends on your modifications and the type of ECM you have. I have a friend that has a Miniram. When his engine was a 350 and not too radical, the ARAP bin for his 89 worked very well with only minor tweaking. But now that he has gone 383 and made extensive mods, the ARAP bin is not working out that well.

Further, he is maxing the MAF around 5,000 rpm, so he will have to go to SD as there is not enough ability to adjust the eprom via PE beyond 4,800 rpm with MAF. With SD, you can continue to adjust the fuel via the VE Tables to 5,600 rpm and the PE tables to 6,400 rpm. Since his enigne will make good power past 6,000 rpm, SD is his only alternative at this time.

Where can I find the software/hardware to do this. I have a SD car. Which is the easiest to use? I am NOT comp. literate. Please let me know about how much it costs. Thank you.

Glenn, I guess you didn't see my previous response to this. The PE vs. RPM table in the $6E code also goes to 6400 rpm, at least it does in GMEPro. I'm sure it should in TunerCat too. No need to change to SD.

Greg, I just checked the newer version of TC and on the 89 (WOT %Fuel Add vs RPM) it does appear to go to 6,400 rpm. I am suspecting I may have been looking at the wrong table or something was funny with the older version of TC which I was using at the time.

Freebird, head over to the DIY PROM board and start by reading the article by Trax, its on the top of the initial page. After reading the article a few times, then start by searching through the archives for things you have questions on. Chances are they are already answered.
