Cam Swap.. Help!

Yo guys, need a word of advice for my new L98 TPI build.

I'm at the last, and most important choice in part.. my cam.
I have stock heads.. 1.94/1.5.. stock ratio's, after market comp springs. I have a late style 87-95 roller block. I was thinking with going with CraneCams 104224, but i'm looking for something used, in good condition.. that will work with 'stock' heads. How about an LT1 cam? How are they performance wise?.. if you had to pick from something easily found on ebay cheap, whats my best bet?

P.s.. i'm not looking for anything with massive lift and a hard idle, i want a decent mild 'cheap' cam.

Also to note, i just bidded on two 96' LT1 cams on ebay.. dirt cheap, ill see what happens.

Thanks!

Re: Cam Swap.. Help!

I'm running a ZZ4 Cam with my stock heads and I love it. I chose it for 3 reasons. First, they're relatively cheap. I bought mine for $100 with about 100 miles on it. Second, it doesn't require tuning the computer. Not saying there's not any power to be had by tuning, but the car ran just as good as it did with the stock cam. Lastly, with the stock heads, too much more cam would just be a waste.

The only thing needed outside of the cam swap itself was new valvesprings to handle the additional lift, but that's going to pretty much be a given with any cam you choose. Although not necessarily needed, new lifters, pushrods, and screw in studs are a good idea.

OK, just noticed you already have the springs.

....also, if this is going on a 1990 car, assuming it's still got the stock computer, you have speed density and not MAF. My 89 is MAF. I can't say you won't need a tune. I've heard the SD cars are a LOT more sensitive to changes than the MAF cars.

Re: Cam Swap.. Help!

Its MAF. Its actually going in an S-10 with an OBD-II computer/custom harnes. My 83 Z has a carb.. this is for a new project.

I was told that an LT1 cam is quite decent, and i found one on ebay in my price range. I searched for a ZZ4 cam, and i just cant find anything in my range.. yes, im on a very 'poor' budget and need to get it done heh.

I already have after market springs, comp pushrods and lifters, and roller tip rockers w/ 7/16" screw in studs.
