don't get your hopes up.......... they help in the greater scheme of things. but if you don't have them you should.

I wouldn't expect any gain whatsoever really. The advantage is you can clean them regularly (say every other oil change) and be sure that your filter is never dirty, which would cost you performance. It's good preventative maintenance all around.

- Definitely prototypes, high powered mutants of some kind. Too weird to live, too cool to die

I guess I have to go against the grain. I have a '91 Formula LB9 TPI G92 setup for 230hp and 300lbs torque. I have about 40k miles on the car and engine.

I bought a K&N cone, oiled it up and attached it directly to the throttle body as per instructions while disconnecting the factory intake gear.

My first run was a noticeable improvement. The next few runs got better and by the second day I can say that there was a definite and clearly noticeable improvement in power. I measured this in rpms which now made power to between 5750 and 5800 -- it pretty much died off at 5500 before. More important, the seat of the pants was most improvement was most noticeable at around 2800rpm where there was a real improvement in torque.

Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to say you will start taking C5 Corvettes with a silly filter upgrade. But it was clearly a noticeable improvement and therefore I consider it a good investment for bang-for-the-buck.

Now keep in mind I have a Firebird induction setup which may be more restrictive than the Camaro setup ? So I might see a bigger improvement just because my factory setup was more restrictive.

BTW: I took the cone off because IMHO it made too much noise. I ended up buying a factory replacement Holley Power-Shot filter, cut open my factory filter canister and saw a noticeable improvment with this mod as well.

RP.
