Who has the best looking TPI here?

What is the best look for TPI - polished, chromed, painted, powder coated etc etc? Anyone have any photos of a good looking set-up? I'm thinking polished runners/plenum and black with red bowtie valve covers... WDYR?

irocbsa, those are GMPP valve covers. The part number is 12355350. PAW lists them for $94.95.

Now I'm just confused. There are some unreal looking TPI's out there. The black powder coated ones look great but polished is good too. Anyone have trouble with the powder coating coming off near high temps/fuel spills etc? Do you guys who have polished them clear coat them after polishing?

I have the one in the pic above painted with high temp engine paint, and clear (which is also high temp). It was painted about 4 years ago, and still looks great. No flaking, and I spilled some fuel checking the pressure and I wiped it off right away and it was ok. If you were to polish the base and runners, I'd suggest a clearcoat because its hard to get at.

I powdercoated mine about 3 weeks ago, and beat the he!! out of them getting them back in, especially the driver's side. I couldn't chip that stuff off if I tried. A neighbor of mine came over and he had his doubts about powdercoat, heard that it chipped off and all sorts of other stuff, so just to show him I rapped the side of the plenum with a ratchet extension, all it did was make a tiny little dent, but no chips. I flushed my brake fluid at the same time, the wife was mashing the pedal for me, and hit the brake a little too hard with the cap off the MC, and splashed some all over, including the runners. I didn't see it for a few minutes, but when I did, I wiped it off, and you couldn't even tell it was there at all.

The only problem trying to powdercoat the runners was that the metal was attracting the powder BEFORE it could delve between the runners, so if you look closely you can see where it looks "unpainted", but you really have to look for it.

My runners are powder coated also. The stuff is hard as nails. I had my rear axle done also. No chips yet. My buddy that did the coating told me they make hi-temp coatings now. I'm thinking of getting the headers done to try it out.

Oh, and BSA, they are GMPP valve covers. They cost about $2400, but they came with an engine

So how is that a 92 if it has a MAF sensor and no provision or MAP sensor present on the side of plenum ?!

Here's mine...but it's not in a thirdgen.

It's based on a '92 SD system. The plenum was from a MAF car, so I just put a MAP sensor on the fire wall and plumbed it in.

Chris (TPl383),

I give up man,,usually at the level you're spraying, there are individual fogger nozzles for each runner,, so where do you have the nitrous run? Also that picture looks like straight plug heads, if they are what are they?

Hey,, if you have a miss, it's because you need to put back that #1 plug wire that's off in the picture. (just razzing)

Nice looking set up,, glad to see the SLP runners represented.

Yes they do. Not sure how much, got mine used from a guy in Hawaii! I paid like $120 I think. You will need to move the battery to the trunk though, that gets expensive, box, switch, cable, time.

Hey, Harborfreight Tools is now selling a powdercoat kit with black powdercoat, the air gun, the power supply and the electrodes for less than $200. If you get an old electric oven for the garage, you are in the powdercoating business.

Heck, if anyone wants a powdercoated plenum, let me know. I already have the lab oven. Maybe I'll do four or five plenums and pay for the kit myself! I can also port your plenum for $60.

I did mine with the Eastwood kit... a friend of mine bought the kit for I think $150 and a junker oven for $10, and I bought the powdercoat for another $10 + shipping.... the awsome thing is there is hardly any waste... whatever doesn't stick to the metal can just be swept up and put back in the can....

Well, its a big pic, but in it you can see:

1: A newly refurbished TPI, powder coated silver with red fuel rails,

2: A Northstar 32v intake, fuel rails and 23lb injectors,

3: An LT4 Intake with 'Vette covers, 24lb SVO injectors and setup for F/B-bodies

4: And the corner of a Cross-Fire injection system.

BadSS and Blade,
Ill tell ya why its a MAF. car went from a 305 TPI (yanked it at 32k miles traded for a blown 400) put in a carbed/ blown 400sb. bent the hell out of a rod.(that post is on thirdgen alsowith pic's.)so I put in a carbed 355.
Then I met JIM FORMATO and got a ecm and 87 iroc wireing harness for free and built the 383 with him from there.
The TB is a BBK twin 58MM from a LT1 hence the TPS. the holes where wallowed out to make it adjustable. Got the TB for 50bucks.
About the NOS your right Did ALOT of street racing in Ft. Myers FLA when I lived there and had the intake sent to NOS for everything to be plumed underside.
HEADS are AFR 210CC heads ported/and extrude honed. yes straight plugs Part #1052

TPl383,

First of all, I checked your link out, and MATEOZ28 is a real comedian for using my post (and Blade's for that matter) out of context.

Second, It's uncommon to see straight plug heads running as fast as you do. I've done a few hidden installs myself under the manifold ,, and again it's a little uncommon to plume the level of nitrous that it takes to get the times you're running under the intake. However,, no doubt makes for a killer sleeper - you're proof of that.

Third, you have to excuse people sceptical of your times. You post RWHP dyno figures of 439 horses around 6400 rpm,, and while it's got a hell of a power range,, mid 10's off the spray,, even at 3200lbs w/driver,, is definately not typical. While I've had a few engines dynoed,, I'm not familiar with chassis dyno "horsepower" figures,, us old timer tight wads like using a calculator at the track to figure HP levels. At any rate,, there is no reason for me to doubt you,, not being typical is what seperates winners from loosers.

Later - Kevin

Here is mine, mostly sanded smooth plenum, aluminum corvette distributor cover.

I have another plenum that I am taking my time with and polishing it to a nice mirror finish.
