AFPR during an injector swap ?

Hi All,

I am going to be replacing my TPI injectors soon (thx to some instructions received in this forum) and was wondering if it is a good time to install an adjustable fuel pressure regulator ?

My main problem is I really don't know what these do ? Is it something you install to make the injectors flow more fuel to keep up with other engine mods ? My engine is pretty much stock so I am wondering if it is worth the effort ?

Thx, RP.

if you do install the regulator, get a pressure
gauge too. so this way you will know what pressure
youve got it set at. blindly setting your pressure
makes for salot of trial and error.
ohh.. and you might want to locate a tamper
resistant torx 10 bit. on my 89 corvette we
had a bit*h of a time without it. bought one
and pieces went together easier.

Well, when you're into the injectors, the FPR is right there, so swapping it is easy. However, you don't 'need' to do it now. It takes all of 5 minutes to remove the plenum to do it later if you are so inclined.
As for the security torx, yeah they are a pain. If you're too stupid and lazy to buy the correct driver (like me), you can remove them by flattening the security nipple in the center and using a regular torx bit. Of course, when that fails, you can then resort to using pliers on the outer head of the screw to remove it. To reinstall (in case your new FPR doens't come w/ new screws) you can use a dremel to cut slots to use a screwdriver to put them back in.

As for why you want them, it's no necessarily just so you can increase fuel to compensate for mods. It's just a tuning aid, giving you the ability to roughly skew your whole fuel curve up/down to tune for best power. Roughly is the key word. You will impact the amount of fuel added the same at 2k as you do at 5500 (percentage wise), which may or may not be a big help. If you can't burn chips at the track, you can adjust FP to tune it up and down (go by your trap speed.)
