Somewhat stock TPI 305...which cam has best results?? CompuCams...TPIS...??

I'm looking for someone with personal experiance that can attest to "seat of the pants" differance....

What I got is a somewhat stock 1986 HYDRAULIC FLAT TAPPET TPI 305 (Accel SuperCoil, Hypertech therm. II Chip, K&N's, Airfoil).

What I have now: I took the complete TPI setup off my other wrecked IROC's 305, and I'm going to have the throttle body ported along with the intake manifold and plenum. I thought about having the 305 heads ported with a 3-angle valve job (but that all depends on what I have to gain vs. money and is best)

My question is: What brand (and model # too) cam is best to use in the situation where I have a ported TPI system (but still relatively stock) and possibly ported heads?? I was looking in Jeg's at the CompuCams and stumbled onto several different ones....TPIS offers 2 types of cams too (-1986-HYDRUALIC FLAT TAPPET). Any feed back wouuld GREATLY be appreciated, especially personal experiance with "off the shelf cams"!!!!

Thanks

Corey

I've got the same flat-tappet 305 as you, and while playing with Dyno2000, I've realized that Compucam2030 is the best choice. Gives a great hp increase (40hp in my case), responds well to better heads (ie.. using torquer305's or vette heads, and really great with Vortec's) and is still computer compatable. This will be my next purchase.

Hey. I have a 1986 Iroc and got a compucar cam from Jegs. I forgot the part number, but it's lift was 440/454 and it said for TPI 305/350 with 3.73 or higher. It was with stock heads and everything. That cam, headers and the little stuff got me a 9.12 in the 1/8 @over 76 mph. That was with only a 1.9X 60ft time. With a 125 shot it went 8.02 @88. Nobody believed it was a 305. Ok I just found my Jegs book. The series number is 2040 and the part number is 270-114132. Oh yea. I had completelt stock TPI, except for some SLP runners. I have this cam still in my motor(pulled to put in 350.) If you have any more questions or advice on setup or want to get my cam e mail me. NufNuffZ28@yahoo.com

Later

Chris

How do you think that came would work if you used 3.23's instead?
