MAP or MAF?????

Please bare with me im new to the fuel injection area but when i bought my car the guy i bought it from said the car had the speed density system in it. Now if im correct (dont know if i am) the speed density system wasnt available for the 89 motor which is in the car but the car is a 91. my question is how do i tell if the car is map or maf for sure so i can get a new harness and also how do i find out if it is the speed density system? thank you

Re: MAP or MAF?????

MAF car have a MAF sensor somewhenre between the Throttlebody and AIR filter.

MAf sensor to the left MAP sensor to the right.

/N.

You could also look at what number you have on your ECM, my guess is you have a MAP system with a 1227730ECM

Re: MAP or MAF?????

Pretty much all of the engine parts will be the same, such as the intake, runners, and plenum. If someone replaced the original engine with an 89, that doesn't mean they used the mass air system from it. Most likely they've just replaced the engine block, and maybe the cylinder heads and/or intake as well.

Re: MAP or MAF?????

Does the car have a MAF sensor (the big one pictured above) on the intake tube? If so, then it's MAF.

Re: MAP or MAF?????

If your not sure what to look for under the hood, look at your ecm, if it has 3 plugs on it then it is map, if 2 plugs, it's maf.

If your not sure what to look for, post a picture of the engine bay, and you'll be told what you have in a matter of seconds....
