Uhhh,,, that's a custom made sheetmetal intake,, well over $2000 just for it and the rails I'm sure. It is a killer set up regardless of how much the intake cost!

$2500, and that's not a TPI intake, more of a mini-ram/LT1 style intake (short runner design) AKA un-tuned or anti-tuned whatever. 18* heads. The only way to get further from a TPI engine than that would be to put a carb on it. Sorry, I hope that was a joke. Go search for 4 vavle chevy heads by Arao engineering, that's something exotic and interesting to post about.

thats kinda pathetic for a solid roller 427 with 18* heads to ONLY be putting out 650hp

i mean i know people with 377s and 23* heads making 660hp and a 427 making 710hp with 23* heads....

doesn't make sense to me

I just love how someone posts something new and maybe interesting to some and everyone just starts ripping in, oh, 650hp, thats pathetic, etc. Man if you don't have something positive to post, don't! How many here have a motor putting out 650hp? Maybe this guy races in a restricted class. Maybe he is happy with 650hp. How many have the skill to weld up a new intake system. Geez it's like a drop of blood in the water and the know-it-all sharks come running.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I would not object to having that engine under my right foot I think the owner is a corvetteforum member.

just because it doesn't look like the 3rd gen tpi's does not mean that it isn't.gm has made two types of tpi's(TUNED PORT INJECTION)the l98/lb9's and the ls1's.anyone notice that it is a dry sump motor?clearly race only.i've seen that intake setup before it is a dual 4 barrel setup wth njector bungs welded in as well as a larger plenum to help high end hp.imho don't knock it if you cant beat it.

So what do you have built that can compete with Monty's setup?? I thought so! Sounds to me like we have a player hater amongst us!

Monty posts frequently on www.corvetteforum.com. If you check out the engine mods section you will find he's very active and will answer any questions regarding this motor.

It's not pathetic like 89Procharged said, it's a nice motor....but I think what he meant was for the kind of damn money put into that engine it should be pushing out more than that. I mean, come on guys, lifters that are $200+ bucks a piece? This is an all-out race engine ($2500 crank, etc.), and therefore we should expect to see more extreme output.

That kind of power can be reliably made with a 427 at a far lower price, IMO. But again, it IS a nice motor, don't get me wrong.

Their is difference between an engine with 650hp that is living on the edge and an engine with 650hp that will withstand the abuse. That engine was built with the best of the best parts so that it will survive.

Hmmmmm....so it wouldn't survive with about $800-$1000 in the crank and $500-800 in the rods (could be a $2000 total cost savings), or without $200 each for lifters, or with $1000-$1500 heads, or with $1500 for a miniram as opposed to $2500 for a custom intake? What about the Jesel shaft mount rockers, the timing set, the oil pan and let's not forget a $670 oil pump? There are plenty of ways to cut cost and arrive at the same output with equivalent durability, so I'm not sure I see your point.

Again, it's a nice engine, and I would like it under my foot too, but it IS extreme for the output.

Maybe some people just dont give a crap about cost and want the most expensive stuff they can buy. If I had LOTS of money I would too. Even if it "only" made 650HP !
