whats the best idea to mod your stock air box on a 85 t/a? i know you cant cut the sides since it breathes through the top of the air can can i do some cutting on the bottom for maybe a pony or 2??

Hawks sells a ram air duct that runs from under the front bumper. It gives better/direct airflow to the filter. I've seen a pair installed on a 91 Z28, I'm not sure if it fits a FireBird, but you might want to check them out.
Also if it's a tpi set up, you may want to consider a smooth bellows between the airbox and the sensor, it cuts down turbulence.
