Anyone doing LT1 conversion?

My conversion is moving along slowly. It's been a lot more work than it looks like. I now have all the mods done to the intake and have trial fit the distributor. I have also made a new throttle bracket out of stainless. And a friend of a friend says he'll get me the fuel lines. Hopefully I'll be tuning before it snows.

Very, very good. Sounds like your coming along great. Let me know if you need any advice.
Anyone else trying a LT1 intake swap?

Not many, because everybody told John it couldn't be done w/o an exuberant amount of money/resources, and John showed them all up by doing it in his home garage w/ parts from DAP and PepBoys. I think "they" are still in shock/denial.

I whish you the best of luck, and I'm sure John can walk you through any/all problems you may run into.

I'm keeping track of costs and will have it posted when done. I think I've spent about $200 so far. That's a net cost of $50

I sold my old TPI (base, runners and pleunum) for $300 at e-bay. That offset the cost of the swap by over half.

I plan on doing the LT4 intake swap w/ Vortec style Fast Burn heads. Hopefully the ports on the intake and heads will line up with little or no porting. I'll let everyone know how it goes. I'll be doing it along with my new motor hopefully by Christmas time.

As soon as the finances straighten themselves out. I have the LT1 intake just taking up space in the garage. Plus I wanna make sure I have all the bugs worked out of the 89 RS convt ZZ4TPI before I radically change the equation.

Those who are doing the swap... how are you tackling the computer issue? Will you be burning your own proms so you can keep the stock system?

Omega: It's easy for me, I already have Accel's DFI. It's just a slight program change on the laptop.

I'm going to attempt this swap this winter while I have my motor out refreshing it.
Figure I'll port the hell out of her to fit the flow for the 406 and G2 heads.
I also going to have a speed-pro to make the tuning alittle easier.

I got a buddy running 6.82 with dragradials through a full 1/8th. He's got the same combo I got except he's got a miniram. I'm going to see how close I can get to that.

It should be interesting.

I've got the LT1 intake sitting in my garage for the moment. Going to start the conversion in january when i'm out of school. I'm also going to try running it with the megasquirt DFI computer so it'll be interesting to see how that works too.

I recommend keeping the stock computer and getting a prom burned. After all this was supposed to be a cheap swap!

Cheap swap? The actual intake yes, but everyone that is doing it has DFI What in the world is a megasquirt?

Now i have a really REALLY good reason to get the prom burning equipment

Would this intake be too much for a 305?

Megasquirt: http://www.bgsoflex.com/megasquirt.html

It's definitely budget in the sense that if this were a Miniram, you would still need to do a chip/program. All the "extras" are still needed either way. So far, what's cost the most are the extras. Hoses, clamps, wiring, etc.
