Anyone using vortec heads and new TPI intake?

Curious to see if anyone is using the vortec heads and the new TPI intake. I am planning this build up using a zz3 cam ina 355 with forged pistons...

I just finished the swap... too bad I can't get the car started. As soon as I get the car turned I will be at the track. I haven't seen anyone else with results.

Since the topic's already here.

Can one of you guys verify for me that vortec uses egr??

Anybody have any comments about the SDPC base quality? I noticed a comment about 'slight modifications required' That true? thanks

vortec TPI does use EGR, you just have to use their egr kit (sold separately) www.sdpc2000.com

I don't think the EGR kit is CARB approved, is it?

Probably not but it's buried so far back a tech would have to be **** to find it.

It is a 'vette style' egr, so I don't see why it wouldn't be approved. The quality is pretty good. Everything lines up well, all the bolt holes are straight and the threads are tight and clean. The "modifications" for me was mostly plugging the extra holes. (2 extra coolent temp type holes on the front, one near the distributor, one up front near the #1 injector) also the coil has to be reloacated. The probelms I had... the talled deck makes getting the runners on a little tougher, the old distributor hold down bolt was too long, and the distbutor hits the maifold on the driver's side it comes shaved for a larger distributor. I had to trim the bottom of my cap a little, I highly recomend you do a test fit if you get the base. Overall I am very satisfied with it, and would buy it again. I do wish I had the time and tools to port it out and fix the distributor interfearence.

-I was thinking it may be possible to pull the maifold with the runners and everything still on because you no longer have the middle two bolts. Anyone in a position to attempt this?

Just some info.... Brian at Scoggin-Dickey told me that the vortec base that they make flows more CFM than an aftermarket standard style TPI base (stock for Stock) with no additional porting. I have dremel tools with steel carbide bits. This is what I'll use to modify the base (porting for siamesed runners, distributor clearance if necessary, etc.) I'm also going to port the runners and upper plenum.

BitchinCamaro: great response!

Do you feel you gained the HP numbers that were claimed? I read around 375 after the heads/manifold and a cam

Whatchoo think?

I called salee chevy here in my state and basically for $1k even I can get brand new vortec heads assembled with screw in studs and springs good to .510, AND the base.
Tell me that you can spend a better grand than that !
thanks!
